Acting US Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolfe has resigned. This is reported by CNN with reference to a letter from the head of the department.
It is noted that earlier Wolfe criticized the supporters of the incumbent President Donald Trump, who broke into the Capitol. He called the use of violent methods to achieve political goals unacceptable, and also called on Trump and all elected officials to condemn the actions of the demonstrators. Nevertheless, Wolfe then announced that he would continue to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security.
Earlier, US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transportation Minister Elaine Chao left their positions after the attack on the Capitol.
The storming of the US Capitol building took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the current head of state, who do not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in the election of Democrat Joe Biden as president. The rallies led to clashes with the police. Five people died, dozens were detained.
