Erdogan finds OSCE guilty of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh

Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan found the OSCE Minsk Group guilty of the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“The Minsk Group did not deal with the settlement of the Karabakh problem. It was because of her negligence and inaction that the situation came to such a result. The world community silently looked at the occupation by Armenia, ”he said.

Erdogan added that Azerbaijan “is moving forward decisively” and recaptures the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the president, Baku has already “liberated” many settlements, and Ankara supports him.

The Minsk Group is co-chaired by Russia, France and the United States. In October, the presidents of these countries Vladimir Putin, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump made a joint statement on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, in which they called on the parties to the conflict to immediately end hostilities. The leaders of the three countries called on the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan to resume negotiations to resolve the situation.

On September 27, clashes broke out in Nagorno-Karabakh. Baku reported that Armenian forces fired at Azerbaijani positions and settlements and announced a counteroffensive. Yerevan stated that Azerbaijan attacked the unrecognized republic. The Armenian side claims that 4,000 militants are fighting on the side of Azerbaijan, which Turkey has transferred from Syria.

In 1991, Nagorno-Karabakh, the majority of whose population were Armenians, declared independence from Azerbaijan. Baku tried to return the region by force, a war broke out. In 1994, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, through the mediation of Russia, signed a truce protocol. However, hostilities periodically resume.
