In Odessa, on the Kulikovo field square, unknown persons desecrated an impromptu memorial to those killed on May 2, 2014. It is reported by the local edition “Timer”.
Vandals tore off wreaths and photos of those killed in the House of Trade Unions from the stands.
According to eyewitnesses, officers of the National Police of Ukraine arrived at the scene.
On April 3, the faction of the European Solidarity party accused the leadership of the Odessa Regional Council of “pro-Russian propaganda” and a desire to destabilize the situation in the region. The reason for the accusations was the vote on the installation of a memorial sign to the victims on May 2, 2014, nominated by the deputy from the Sharia Party, Alexander Chernoivanenko. The chairman of the regional council, Vitaly Barvinenko, said that the deputies from the European Solidarity party are engaged in provocations.
In December 2020, it became known about the plans of the State Archival Service of Ukraine (GASU) to move the regional archive of Odessa to the House of Trade Unions. Now the approval of the transfer of the building to the jurisdiction of the State Civil Aviation Administration is underway.
On May 2, 2014, major clashes between supporters of the federalization of Ukraine and Euromaidan activists took place in Odessa. During the riots, part of the pro-Russian activists took refuge in the House of Trade Unions, which was then set on fire. According to official data, 48 people were killed, more than 200 were injured. The authorities recognized more than 20 people as the instigators of the clashes and riots. The investigation is still ongoing.
