The new regulation provides for a basic, route and time tariff. A one-year “observation phase” will start soon.
Vienna has fixed a new taxi tariff model. The corresponding agreement was announced on Friday by the Vienna City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke (SPÖ), President of the Chamber of Labor Renate Anderl and the President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, Walter Ruck. The prices for a journey through Vienna will in future be made up of a basic, route or time tariff.
Vienna has thus implemented the new rules for standardizing the taxi and rental car industry. It was already known that the taxi tariff system would be retained. A theoretically possible release of the pricing will not be given, it was already made clear last. In any case, all providers – including rental car platforms such as Uber – will have to adhere to these requirements in the future.
For journeys in which a taxi is waved in on the street or taken at the stand, a basic rate of 3.40 euros per day and 3.80 euros at night will apply in future. There is also a route tariff for 1 to 5 kilometers of 0.80 euros and 0.50 euros from 5 kilometers. The time tariff for downtimes is 0.50 euro cents per minute. However, surcharges are possible. It was promised that pre-booked trips can be calculated in advance with a price range of 20 percent upwards and downwards. The obligation to return, as previously applied to rental cars, is no longer applicable.
“For a modern city like Vienna, it is important to rethink mobility and optimize it in line with the needs of our population as well as international guests. With this step we are not only making a qualitative leap forward and improving the mobility offer in Vienna, but promote Vienna as a business and tourism location in the international competition. This is made possible above all by the regional operating regulations that were enacted last year, which contain important quality features and have contributed to the modernization of the passenger transport industry, “assured Hanke.
The economic spokesman for coalition partner NEOS, Markus Ornig, was also convinced: “With this agreement, we have created fair and liberal framework conditions for the industry and a broad, transparent range of services for the Viennese. We are also sending a very strong signal for climate protection : From 2025, only electric cars are to be registered as taxis in Vienna and the tiresome return obligation is a thing of the past. “
“The new regulation is intended to help prevent wage and social dumping in this industry, which we unfortunately keep seeing,” said AK President Renate Anderl. The President of the Chamber of Commerce, Ruck, was satisfied that legal security and fair framework conditions would now apply to all market participants.
In an initial reaction, the taxi company 40100 also praised the new system: “We are pleased that this new model will put a stop to exorbitant prices from various providers in the future,” explained managing director Andreas Hödl. “Only because of the fair framework conditions that all providers will have to adhere to in the future, a quality competition will be possible. In addition, customers can rely on their fare within a fixed range.”
