New York has been declared an anarchy city by the United States government. The city has lost money from the federal government for failing to control protesters and cutting police funds. Reported by the New York Post.
As it became known to the newspaper, New York was named one of three cities placed by the US Department of Justice in the list of “anarchist jurisdictions”. Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington were two other cities on the list, which was approved by US Attorney General William Barr.
“When state and local leaders interfere with their own law enforcement officials and agencies from doing their jobs, it endangers innocent citizens who deserve protection, including those who are trying to peacefully gather and protest,” Barr said.
He added that the authorities cannot allow “taxpayer money to be wasted when the safety of citizens hangs in the balance.” Barr also expressed the hope that these cities will change their course, become serious about fulfilling the main function of government and begin to protect their citizens.
On September 8, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo accused US President Donald Trump of trying to kill the city. The statement is related to the fact that the White House allegedly refused to provide additional assistance to the states affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, Trump does not want to pay for the cleaning of schools and trains.
Since the end of May, dozens of US cities have been protesting police brutality following the death in Minneapolis of a black security guard, George Floyd, who died after a brutal arrest. In some cases, protests have ended in riots, clashes with the police, looting, looting and pogroms.
