Tokyo authorities want to introduce emergency measures due to the increase in COVID incidence

Tokyo authorities have asked the Japanese government for permission to impose emergency restrictive measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, the Associated Press reported.

In the capital of Japan, the emergency regime was canceled in January. According to Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, “it is only a matter of time before Tokyo faces the same situation as Osaka.”

The day before, an emergency regime was introduced in Osaka due to the high incidence of COVID-19, and it was decided to hold the Olympic torch relay in this prefecture without spectators.

Koike said that details of the new measures, such as restrictions on the operation of restaurants and bars, may be discussed on Friday.

The agency notes that in Japan as a whole, there is an upward trend in the incidence of coronavirus. The day before, 3.4 thousand new cases of coronavirus infection were reported. The total number of cases of infection during the pandemic has reached almost 494 thousand.
