Vienna: Overnight stays in 2020 fell by 73.9 percent
In December there was almost a total failure with a minus of 95.6 percent.
It was not to be expected otherwise due to the corona, now it is clear in black and white: The Viennese city hotel industry recorded a fall in overnight stays of 73.9 percent in 2020, as Vienna Tourism announced in a broadcast on Tuesday. A total of 4.6 million overnight stays were counted. For comparison: in the record year 2019 there were 17.6 million overnight stays.
Hotels have had to be closed for weeks again since November due to the corona – there is currently an officially prohibited entry. Business travelers are excluded from this.
In December – actually a strong month for the industry – there was almost a total failure in the Viennese hotel industry: only 76,000 overnight stays were registered, which is a year-on-year decrease of 95.6 percent.
The net overnight turnover in the hotel industry for the months from January to November was EUR 231.5 million. That means a decrease of 74.4 percent. No figures in this regard were yet available for December.
