Westbahn route: According to the SPÖ, commuters and students are victims of the government dispute
Halving the number of trains logically means that twice as many commuters and students have to travel on each train.
“If the railway companies have to cut the number of trains on the western route in half because the finance minister does not want to extend the corona aid, when it comes to easing, that is traffic and health policy madness. Halving the number of trains logically means that twice as many commuters and schoolchildren have to travel on each train – that is absolutely irresponsible in a pandemic, ”says the deputy. SPÖ club boss Jörg Leichtfried. “The commuters and schoolchildren who depend on the train will be victims of the next turquoise-green government dispute.” Finance Minister Blümel, who has already screwed up the budget, must immediately release the money for the transport department and end this blockade of state aid. “Is the finance minister now also fading rail traffic?”
Leichtfried suspects that this blockade was “a show of force by the finance minister against his green government colleague Gewessler”. “It's not about huge sums, it's about 15 million euros per month, with which the supply of national trains on one of the most important railway lines in Austria is to be ensured even in pandemic times.” Leichtfried reminds that ÖBB and Westbahn run this route independently. It is not possible to use money from the infrastructure area of the ÖBB to support an independently run
Passenger route used, ”explains Leichtfried.
