Dozens of young White House employees have been suspended or fired after they confessed to smoking marijuana in states where it is legal. This is reported by The Daily Beast, citing sources familiar with the situation.
When hiring, future employees were promised that they would turn a blind eye to the facts of using marijuana in the past. However, after the young people honestly indicated in the documents that they had used the drug, they were asked to write a letter of resignation or were transferred to remote work.
“We were not really explained the policy on this issue, no one explained where the line is between what is permissible and what is not,” complained one of the excluded White House employees.
The medical use of marijuana is legal in more than 30 states in the United States. Last November, it was reported that more than two-thirds of US residents were in favor of legalizing marijuana. In late February, lawmakers in the US state of Virginia approved a bill that would allow recreational marijuana use from 2024.
