“The companies have their backs to the wall. They don't know what to do and are losing massive numbers of employees to other industries” – Mario Pulker, chairman of the Gastronomy Association in the Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ), found clear words on Tuesday during a press conference with journalists. He is of the opinion: “Seven months of lockdown since the beginning of the Corona crisis are enough.” The current situation is “incaceptable” and “ruinous”.
According to Pulker, prevention and security concepts are on the table, as he assures: “The companies have done their homework. We are committed to admission testing. Our clear goal is a safe opening in March!”, Emphasizes the chairman of the Gastronomy Association.
Pulker and two top chefs, Michael Kolm, from Bärenhof, and Thomas Dorfer, from Landaus Bacher, described the dreary situation in the industry. To draw attention to the dramatic situation, they produced a film clip with the title “Esbrodelt” and presented it on Tuesday.
Michael Kolm, top chef in the Waldviertel gourmet restaurant “Bärenhof” and protagonist of the first film clip: “With the 'Esbrodelt' campaign we want to show unfiltered how people in our industry are. How we have developed products, how we deal emotionally with difficult ones Dodge the situation – the passion for our calling will always simmer in us! “
Thomas Dorfer, head chef in the restaurant “Landhaus Bacher”, which has been awarded 4 toques, also emphasizes: “There has to be a perspective for us people of pleasure in order to be able to look positively into the future again – now. Our employees are passionate about him Profession and want to give the best for our guests again! “
According to a recent survey by the market Institute, 81 percent of the Austrians questioned are in favor of opening up the catering industry. They are also ready to be tested for a visit to the host. Pulker: “That makes it clear: all signs point to a safe opening in March.”
The top landlord's spokesman finally appeals: “Pandemics and viruses will be with us for a long time to come. We have to find workable ways to live with them. Today, unlike a year ago, we have all the tools we need to unlock it safely.” Target time: opening in mid-March.
