First Bernhard Seikovits, then Sandro Platzgummer. The two Austrian NFL hopes completed their first missions for their teams on Friday (local time) and on Monday night. While Seikovits, tight end from Vienna, came to minutes for the Arizona Cardinals mainly in the special teams, the Tyrolean Platzgummer provided a real highlight for the New York Giants.

The 24-year-old running back took over the ball in his own end zone in the fourth and final quarter and broke through on the right side. Only at the center line, next to the Giants bench, was Platzgummer finally brought down by the New York Jets players. His team cheered and the NFL fans were amazed. His 48-yard run was also the longest in the game.

His team, the Giants, lost 7:12 to their local rivals in the end, but Platzgummer was still able to put itself in the limelight. With a total of 51 yards, he also posted the most rushing yards of both teams.

The new NFL season begins on September 12th, with two more test games on the program for Platzgummer and the Giants. In contrast to Seikovits, Platzgummer is no longer protected by the IPP program, so the Giants could part with the Austrian relatively easily.
