A conscious act of aggression: why did Russia create an emergency situation with a US drone

An American MQ-9 Reaper drone crashed as a result of a collision with a Russian Su-27 fighter. Subsequently, analysts noted why the Kremlin decided to create such an emergency.

On Tuesday evening, March 14, a Russian plane collided with an American drone over the Black Sea in international airspace. It is important to emphasize that Russia attempted to intercept US UAVs outside of its terrorist state.

Russia is groping for red lines

Although the American MQ-9 Reaper performed a reconnaissance function, however, Russia did not have legal grounds for attacking a US drone. In addition, Washington and Moscow are not yet in direct armed confrontation.

The Kremlin continues to grope for red lines in the confrontation with the West, and now it is expedient to put the aggressor in his place. Russia deliberately committed the first act of aggression. Possible further actions of the United States in response will have an absolutely legitimate basis, SPRAVDI stated.

At the same time, they noted that this incident cannot be called a “military success” for Russia, since the aircraft of the United States and Washington's partners will continue to conduct operations in international airspace.

Pay attention! The ships of the Black Sea Fleet of the enemy state have begun search operations to seize the wreckage of the MQ-9. However, the United States emphasized that the Russians failed to find the remains of the drone.

In addition, Washington noted that they could not transfer these drones to Ukraine for security reasons – in this case, Russia would have more chances to seize secret technologies.

US reaction to the accident over the Black Sea

  • A high-ranking military commander of the North Atlantic Alliance, General Christopher Cavoli, after the Russian Su-27 collided with an American drone, commented on the situation.
  • He said that all 30 NATO member states have been informed of the accident. The official soon added that the US had summoned the Russian ambassador in Washington to the State Department.
  • At the same time, Brigadier General of the US Air Force Pat Ryder stated that a video of this incident will be made public in the near future.
