A new species of peacock spider was named after the cartoon character “Finding Nemo”

Discovered in South Australia, a new species of peacock spider of the genus Maratus decided to name Nemo after the clownfish – the main character of the cartoon “Finding Nemo”, writes the British tabloid The Daily Mail.

It is noted that the tiny spider is hardly larger than a grain of rice. It got its name from the white and orange stripes that it uses to attract females.

“He has a bright orange face with white stripes that looks like a clown fish. I thought Nemo was a good name for him, ”said Joseph Schubert, the scientist who found the spider.

According to a specialist, he found this bright creature in a swampy area, which is uncharacteristic for this genus. “No other Maratus inhabits such areas,” the scientist added.

Earlier, Swedish scientists discovered four new species of tardigrades. They are microscopic invertebrates known for their resistance to extreme conditions. One of the species was named Xerobiotus gretae in honor of the eco-activist Greta Thunberg.
