The number of people who died due to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus over the past day turned out to be a record for the entire pandemic – more than 11.6 thousand deaths were recorded. This is evidenced by the data of the Johns Hopkins Institute project.
Another coronavirus “record” was broken: more than 666 thousand new infections were detected in the same day.
In total, 1.29 million people have died from COVID-19-related causes worldwide. Most of the victims – 242 thousand – are in the United States, followed by Brazil, India and Mexico.
There are 52.8 million infected, with the United States also leading the way. 34.2 million infected worldwide, according to official figures, have already recovered.
In Russia, the record for the number of deaths was recorded a day earlier – 439 deaths were recorded per day. Over the past 24 hours, more than 21 thousand cases have been identified in the country.
