An air leak in the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) has been found. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a representative of the press service of Roscosmos.
According to a representative of the state corporation, the leak was found in the service module “Zvezda”, which houses the scientific equipment. “Leakage is localized in the working compartment of the service module,” – said in the message of “Roskosmos”. Currently, specialists are looking for a specific place from which air comes out.
Roscosmos clarified that the total atmospheric pressure drop of the ISS was fixed at the level of 1 millimeter in 8 hours. In the coming days, the cause of the pressure drop will be localized, and the station's tightness will be restored. The incident poses no danger to the life and health of the ISS crew.
Earlier, sources in the rocket and space industry said that the air leak on the ISS accelerated five times, up to 1.4 kilograms per day. This required re-isolation of the crew. At the end of August 2018, Dmitry Rogozin, the general director of Roscosmos, reported an air leak from the Russian manned spacecraft Soyuz. Then the hole was sealed with fabric material and glue.
