Александр Лукашенко назначил дату референдума по конституции Беларуси

In Belarus, self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko has scheduled a referendum on amendments and additions to the country’s constitution for February 27.

This follows from the decree that he signed on January 20.

The document defines the wording of the question to be put to a referendum.

It will be reproduced verbatim in the ballot paper:

– Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?

The changes and additions themselves are reported in the files attached to the decree.

Recall that the draft of the new Belarusian constitution provided for changes in the structure of the authorities.

Thus, presidential elections are proposed to be held every five years, but at the same time the same person will be able to be elected for no more than two terms.

These restrictions will take effect after the newly elected president takes office.

This means that if Lukashenka wins the elections, he will serve two more terms in this position.

In addition, a proposal for the creation of a new supreme representative body called the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly will be put to a referendum.
