American chemists have developed a new technology for water purification from toxic metals

American scientists from the University of Berkeley (California) have developed a new technology for water purification from heavy metals. They published the results of their work in the scientific journal Science .

Chemists have created a special flexible polymer membrane that allows the separation of not only salts from water during desalination, but also toxic metals such as mercury, boron and arsenic.

The membrane works effectively as part of electrodialysis systems that use current to absorb ions from water. In addition, the invention makes it possible to collect metals separated from water and use them for other purposes.

Earlier it became known that in Australia, a high-speed water distiller was created, powered by sunlight.
