Americans stopped selling powerful computers due to energy consumption law

The American computer manufacturer Dell has stopped supplying powerful computers and all-in-ones to several states. This is because they do not meet the new energy efficiency standards.

Shipments stopped to California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont and Washington. The new rules came into force on July 1, 2021. From that date, the updated standards must comply with desktops and gaming laptops. In December, they will be extended to monitors with a high refresh rate.

According to the standard, devices should consume no more than 75 kilowatt-hours per year. According to calculations, the new standards will allow California to save more than 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This is equivalent to reducing greenhouse emissions by 730 thousand tons.
