Moscow. September 19th. INTERFAX.RU – An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 was registered in the Kemerovo region, reports the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to the data of operational processing of the Altai-Sayan branch, the epicenter of the earthquake recorded at 11:19 Moscow time on Sunday was on one of the islands on the Tom River near the southwestern border of Mezhdurechensk.
The intensity of the shaking at the epicenter is 5 points on the MSK-64 scale.
According to the Altai-Sayan branch, such earthquakes in Kuzbass are mainly associated with intensive mining operations – the excavation and movement of large volumes of rock leads to a redistribution of stresses in the earth's crust. As a rule, the foci of such earthquakes are located at shallow depths.
