An explosion occurred in a high-rise building in Kiev due to a gas leak – residents were evacuated
In Kiev, in the Shevchenko district, on Maxim Berlinsky street, a fire broke out in a five-story residential building.
At 15.19, the operational coordination center of the Main Directorate of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Kiev received a message about an explosion in the building.
– The firefighters of the 6th State Fire and Rescue Unit immediately arrived at the scene. Rescuers immediately started laying hose lines and evacuating people when they saw thick smoke in a third-floor window, firefighters said.
At the scene of the fire, rescuers heard an explosion. At that time, there was no one in the house.
The firefighters who arrived at the apartment at 15.38 promptly extinguished the fire.
As it turned out later, a short circuit occurred in the kitchen in the refrigerator, followed by burning. The fire damaged the gas hose. This led to a gas leak and a minor explosion. As a result of the explosion, the balcony glazing was damaged.
During the extinguishing of the fire, 15 people were taken out to a safe distance. Fortunately, there are no casualties or injuries.
Firefighters have attracted basic and special fire-fighting and rescue equipment, as well as 15 personnel of the Main Directorate units.
Another fire in the Dnieper occurred in November. Five women aged 75 to 89 died in a fire in a private nursing home.
The press service of the Dnipropetrovsk region police reported that in one of the rooms on the second floor of the house, where the bodies of the victims were found, there was a short circuit and a fire in the electrical wiring.
