Another country received a recommendation for EU candidate status
The European Commission recommended that Bosnia and Herzegovina be granted EU candidate status.
European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Vargei, addressing the European Parliament, noted that Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken a number of steps to obtain candidate status.

“Candidate status – this is an offer from Europe to Bosnia and Herzegovina and to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are doing this for the people, but it comes with high expectations,” he said.
The EU's chief enlargement representative stressed that the Balkan country should urgently complete its pending constitutional and electoral reforms.
The final decision on this matter may be made in December this year.
The leaders of neighboring states welcomed the decision of the EU Commission.
Slovenian President Borut Pahor said that this step will mark the beginning of the European perspectives of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is of great importance for peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said that the EU decision is an important step that will further strengthen the European future of the Western Balkans.
