Austrian Chancellor calls Vienna shooting terrorist attack

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz reacted to the shooting, which was opened by unknown persons in the center of Vienna. He made the statement on Twitter.

According to him, the country is currently going through difficult times. The Chancellor thanked the emergency services and gave assurances that the police will take “decisive action against those responsible for this horrific terrorist attack.” Since the police are currently engaged in the fight against terrorism, the military will take over the protection of the city.

“I am glad that our policemen have already managed to eliminate the criminal. We will never allow ourselves to be intimidated by terrorism and will resolutely fight these attacks by all means, ”wrote Kurz, noting that the whole country thinks about the victims, the injured and their families.

Earlier, French President Emmanuei Macron expressed his condolences to the people of Austria. He added that after the terrorist attacks in France, an allied country fell victim to the attack. “This is our Europe. Our enemies must know who they are dealing with. We will not give up anything, ”the French leader concluded.

On the evening of 2 November, several armed men opened fire in six different parts of Vienna. The first shots were fired at 20:00 local time (22:00 Moscow time) at the synagogue in the center of the capital. As a result of the attack, one person was killed and several were injured, including a badly wounded policeman. The security forces managed to shoot one of the attackers. The Austrian Interior Ministry proceeds from the fact that the incident was a terrorist attack.
