Baltic seal cub spotted in the center of St. Petersburg
A cub of a Baltic seal, which is listed in the Red Book, was noticed by passers-by in the Griboyedov Canal in the historical center of St. Petersburg, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from the Baltic Seal Friends Fund.
“A small and rare Baltic seal swims near the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral. She was recently spotted on the Griboyedov channel, but she can move somewhere else through the channels, ”the organization said in a statement.
According to experts, the animal looks tired and frozen. The Foundation appeals to residents of the city with a request to inform about the location of the seal, if it can be seen. If necessary, specialists will capture the calf and send it to the Center for the Study and Conservation of Marine Mammals.
During this year, several small representatives of the Red Data Book animal have already been saved from death.
Earlier, the Moscow Zoo announced a competition – users of social networks can choose a name for the polar bear. The baby found a new home at the end of April.
