President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach announced the closing of the XXIV Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. This is reported by the correspondent of “Lenta.ru”.
The fire of the Olympics was extinguished during the closing ceremony of the Games. The torch was fixed in the center of the snowflake, on the parts of which all the countries participating in the competition are indicated.
Representatives of the team of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) took part in the parade of athletes. Three-time champion of the Games in Beijing Alexander Bolshunov became her standard-bearer.
Olympians of the Russian team won 32 medals in Beijing, including six gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze medals. Thus, domestic athletes have updated their own national record at the Winter Olympics and surpassed the results of the Games in Sochi. Skiers brought the most medals to the team – they have 11 awards, figure skating is in second place with six awards, biathlon is third – four medals.
The closing ceremony started at 15:00 Moscow time. It was held at the Beijing National Stadium.
