US President Joe Biden has decided to issue an order according to which all the assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan in the amount of $7 billion, stored in American banks, will go to Washington's emergency disposal. The New York Times writes about this, citing sources.

According to the publication, the White House plans to share the money: $3.5 billion will be given to the families and relatives of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks, and the other half will be spent on humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. This step, according to the NYT, will be announced on Friday, February 11.

Through such a measure, according to the publication, Washington plans to resolve the “tangled knot of legal, political, foreign policy and humanitarian problems associated with the end of the 20-year war in Afghanistan.”

Earlier, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan said that direct financing of the Taliban movement ( a terrorist organization banned in Russia ) is not in the interests of the Afghan people. According to him, Washington intends to channel aid to Afghanistan through independent individuals and organizations that can turn it into a meaningful supply of food, medicine and first aid supplies for the Afghans.
