Block visas and confiscate property: US senator proposes new draft sanctions against Putin and his henchmen

The restrictions should directly affect the leadership of the Russian Federation and Russian oligarchs.

Representative of the US Congress, Republican Marco Rubio, proposed his draft sanctions in the event of an invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine.

The corresponding document was published on Friday, January 14, on the official website of the politician.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio proposes that the Director of National Intelligence report to Congress every 20 days from the passage of this bill on attempts by Russia or its proxies to violate the territorial integrity of Ukraine. If the report confirms Russian aggression, the US President should impose a package of sanctions on the leadership and a number of economic sectors of the Russian Federation.

First of all, the restrictions should affect Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

In addition, the visas of all politicians and oligarchs involved in the invasion should be blocked, and their property located on US soil should be confiscated. Visas should also be blocked and the property of the leadership of the Russian Federation confiscated.

Senator Marco Rubio is known as the main signatory to an appeal to President Joe Biden demanding that negotiations with Russia take a tougher approach to discussing the Ukrainian issue and Russian initiatives on NATO.

Recall that on Thursday, January 13, the US Senate rejected a bill imposing new sanctions on the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, proposed by Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
