European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba discussed during a telephone conversation the risk of a possible Russian “invasion” of Ukraine. On Thursday, December 23, TASS reports with reference to the statement of the EU foreign policy service.

The statement notes that the head of Euro-diplomacy and the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry discussed the security situation in Eastern Europe in the light of “Russia's military build-up around Ukraine.”

“The buildup of military power has created new threats and fears of invasion,” the text specifies.

Earlier in December, Borrell supported a NATO proposal to host a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council. According to the head of European diplomacy, NATO's invitation to dialogue in response to the Russian proposals made public last week is a serious action to ensure peace in Europe.
