Scientists from the UK analyzed the results of massive PCR testing conducted in the country in 2020-2021. The researchers concluded that during this time, the main symptoms of the coronavirus have changed a lot.
The study was based on 5 million PCR test results. They showed that from April to December 2020, patients mainly complained of sore throat, fever, cough, loss of taste and smell. This was the period when the alpha strain of the virus was most prevalent in the UK, according to the unpublished medical publications site medRxiv.
After May 2021, the delta strain became dominant. Complaints of headache, muscle pain, weakness, and increased fatigue were added to the main symptoms.
The study authors also noted that the range and severity of symptoms depends on viral load and vaccination status. For example, after the first dose of vaccination, the likelihood of getting some unpleasant symptom of the coronavirus is greatly reduced.
As the website kp.ru previously wrote, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called the situation with coronavirus infection in Moscow one of the best among Russian regions. In the city, a weekly drop in the incidence of COVID-19 is recorded.
