Changes in support of Ukraine in the USA: what is the rhetoric of the Republicans and is it in demand
Florida Governor and Republican Party member Ron DeSantis said that endless assistance to Ukraine is not in the interests of the United States. Such narratives are promoted by several supporters of former US President Donald Trump. Most Republicans are pro-Ukrainian.
This opinion was expressed on the air of Channel 24 by international political scientist Maxim Yali. According to him, Trump's intentions have failed, and the core of the Republican Party is voting in favor of Ukraine.
Trump's intentions failed
Yali noted that several Trump supporters are making populist statements about Ukraine. The ex-leader of the United States in the fall of 2022 supported them in the elections so that they could promote his position. Trump's people were only able to gain an advantage in the US House of Representatives (lower house of parliament).
The Democrats were able to gain leadership in the US Senate (upper house of Congress). The political scientist stressed that it is there that decisions on the allocation of funds are made.
The Republicans were expected to have a much larger advantage, possibly in the Senate as well. But even Donald Trump then had to pause, because for him it was a failure. The failure of anti-Ukrainian rhetoric,” he said.
Maxim Yali argues that the majority of Republicans have a pro-Ukrainian position. He cited the examples of U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and former Vice President Michael Pence.
“After all, the majority of Republicans support Ukraine. This is the core of the Republican Party. Therefore, there is no reason to worry seriously yet. If we look at the vote for supporting Ukraine, the majority of Republicans voted in favor,” the international official stressed.
