Children's cap on ice: two nine-year-old boys tragically died in Poltava region

Two little boys tragically died in the Poltava region. Igor and Vanya were best friends and went to fourth grade together. They were only nine years old.

Three days of mourning has been declared in the village of Stone Potoky after the tragic incident. On that sunny day, two schoolchildren were riding bicycles, and they were last seen at a local store.

When the boys did not return home in the evening, the parents immediately began searching, called the police and asked their fellow villagers for help.

Director of the Kamenopotokovsky lyceum Tatyana Dikhtyarenko told reporters that all classmates and friends of the missing children received an alarm call.

– Called all classmates. All parents took this information as about their children. We got involved in this operational work very quickly,” she shared.

Only one boy had a mobile phone, but he left it at home that day. Within an hour, almost all fellow villagers joined the search for the missing comrades.

Where were the children found?

During the search, abandoned houses, forests, bushes and even a river on the outskirts of the village were examined.

“The entire personnel of the Kremenchug regional administration, patrol police units, dog handlers, military personnel of the national guard, employees of the State Emergency Service were immediately involved in the search work,” the police said.

One of the bystanders said that he saw the boys near the banks of the Dnieper floodplains.

The search did not stop all night, and only in the morning on a thin crisis, the police saw a baby hat. She lay inconspicuously at the broken hole.

“Our diving and rescue department found the bodies of boys at a distance of one hundred meters from the shore and at a depth of one and a half meters,” the State Emergency Service said.

The schoolchildren had numerous scratches on their hands, and the bodies froze in poses, indicating that the children tried to stay on the surface to the last.
