Chinese company has created its own processor architecture to compete with ARM and Intel

In recent months, there has been an unspoken confrontation in the computer and laptop market – x86 (led by Intel) against ARM. It all began with the fact that Apple decided within two years to transfer all its computers and laptops to its own ARM-based Apple Silicon chips.

Now the third player, the Chinese company Loongson Technology, has joined the fight. She decided to go her own way and develop a separate architecture called LoongArch, writes CNX Software. According to company representatives, its development was studied by specialists who did not find anything in common with existing solutions: ALPHA, ARM, MIPS, POWER, RISC-V or x86.

At the same time, it is also stated that the first processors have already been created on the basis of the new architecture – 12nm Loongson 3A5000 and 3C5000. The first one boasts 4 cores and a frequency of 2.5 GHz. This model is aimed at common home computers. The second option has already received 16 cores, but, in turn, this is a server processor.
