China's Zhuzhong rover of the Tianwen-1 system has begun research, the China Space Science and Technology Corporation said. Zhurong left the landing platform and reached the surface of Mars at 10:40 Beijing time (5:40 Moscow time), the statement said. The Chinese rover will study the geological structure, atmosphere and climate of Mars.

The Tianwen-1 interplanetary station consists of an orbiter, a descent vehicle and a rover. The complex was launched to Mars on July 23, 2020 by the Changzheng-5 launch vehicle. The lander of the Tianwen-1 system reached the surface of Mars on May 15.

Recall that this is not the first Chinese probe to study the surface of Mars. In 2011, the Chinese orbiter “Inkho-1” was supposed to go to study the planet together with the Russian automatic scientific interplanetary station “Phobos-Grunt”. The station was unable to leave low-earth orbit.
