Collision of a Russian plane with an American drone: the Russian ambassador met with the assistant secretary of state
He compared the attitude of the Russian Federation towards the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea with the attitude of the United States towards New York or San Francisco.
In connection with the March 14 collision of an American Reaper drone with a Russian Su-27 aircraft over the Black Sea, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov was summoned to the State Department in Washington.
His meeting with Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Karen Donfried lasted about half an hour, according to CNN.
Antonov noted that Russia allegedly “does not want a confrontation with the United States.” Donfried conveyed US concerns about the incident, he said.
“It seems to me that there was a constructive conversation on this matter. I heard her remarks, I hope she understood me,” the ambassador added.
At the same time, he compared the attitude of the Russian Federation towards the territory of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea with the attitude of the United States towards New York or San Francisco.
“We warned not to enter, not to penetrate,” he said, asking how the US would react if a Russian drone approached New York or San Francisco.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Antonov was called in to “transmit strong objections.” Also, US Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy “delivered a strong message to the Russian Foreign Ministry,” he said.
Recall that over the Black Sea, a Russian fighter jet collided with an American drone. As a result, the US Air Force was forced to shoot down its unmanned aerial vehicle. Two Russian Su-27 aircraft carried out a dangerous and unprofessional drone interception, according to a statement by the US Army European Command.
