Cosmonaut Yuri Usachev explained why he is against sending actors to the ISS
Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut Yuri Usachev criticized the idea of filming on the ISS. Actress Yulia Peresild and director Klim Shipenko will go into orbit very soon. They have to collect material for the first ever feature film about space.
The astronaut is convinced that sending actors into orbit is not a good idea. It is much better to involve those who actually work on the ISS in the filming.
– Humanly, I understand: everyone wants to fly into space, watch and experience it. After all, you can specially send professionals to shoot the plot. PR action: “We can already launch the actors into space!”, – Usachev argues in an interview with FAN.
He recalled that modern means make it possible to create zero gravity even in an airplane. Therefore, space photography can be carried out there, it is not necessary to organize a flight.
For example, the film “Apollo 13” was filmed on Earth and it turned out no worse than in space.
There is another danger: astronauts are people with excellent physical fitness. It's not a fact that the actors will be able to withstand the stress.
– It is not clear how they will feel there. It may turn out that a person really has no time for cinema – when he feels sick, he really has no time for filming. For me, this is a dubious idea, – concluded Yuri Usachev.
The cosmonaut noted that 90% of new films will still be shot on Earth. It would be much cheaper and safer to launch weightlessness in an Il-76 aircraft and create an interior similar to the ISS.
– I don't understand why this is done. Maybe the filmmakers have some considerations, but as a professional and layman, I don't see the need, ”Usachev admitted.
