Finland to close borders with neighbors a few days after opening

Helsinki

Finland will close borders with neighboring countries – Sweden and Norway. This was reported by the representative of the local Interior Ministry Kirsi Pimeya a few days after the opening of the borders, she is quoted by YLE.

From September 28, residents of these countries will not be able to enter Finland. Such measures are due to the high incidence rates in Sweden and Norway. So far, the rules will not apply to work trips, you can also enter the country “for family reasons.” However, the Finnish authorities may in any case introduce mandatory quarantine for all countries where the number of infections is 25 per 100 thousand population or more in recent weeks.

Finland's border with Sweden has been closed since March, and on September 19, the government allowed entry into the country without having to go into quarantine.

On September 8, the Finnish authorities once again refused to open external borders for visitors from Russia. The period for which the ban was extended was not specified.

According to the latest data, 9.1 thousand people are infected with the coronavirus in Finland. 341 people died.
