The Formula 1 season 2022 will probably be carried out with 23 races in 245 days. There would be a race almost every weekend.
The 2021 Formula 1 season has not yet ended, but plans are already being made for 2022. The organizers have not yet confirmed the calendar, but based on the ongoing contracts with racetracks around the world, it can be assumed that the calendar will feature another mammoth program.
In addition, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali confirms that the goal of 25 races per year 2022 will not be achieved. “I think more than 23 races are very unlikely,” the Formula 1 boss told Auto Motor und Sport. Rights holder Liberty Media are said to have been guaranteed two additional races.
The 23 races are a mammoth program anyway. Because three times the races will take place within three weekends. This is the only way to carry out the entire program. For seven months, the racing teams will drive around the world and put on a show for Formula 1 fans.
Miami is a new addition to the calendar. The megacity in Florida will run a race for the first time. With the spectacular street circuit through Miami, a second race will take place in the USA in 2022. Domenicali sees enormous growth potential in the USA. “We are convinced that the track will allow fabulous races. I talked to a few team bosses and everyone is enthusiastic,” said the Italian. The contract was signed for ten years.
On the other hand, a German Grand Prix will be missing in 2022. “I have the feeling that the organizers don't really dare to host a Grand Prix,” said Domenicali of “Sport Bild”. In any case, the financial situation could not be the problem: “Take a look at Zandvoort, the race there has been sold out for three years.” With China, Canada and Japan, three races that were canceled this season will take place again.
The new season should start again in Bahrain in 2022. The traditional season opener in Melbourne will be the third race in April. If the pandemic situation allows the Formula 1 entourage to enter the country. Should the races in Le Castellet and Singapore not take place, Imola and Turkey would be available as replacements. A final decision on the racing calendar for the coming season will probably not be made until the end of October. Then the mammoth season is a done deal …
