Found an unknown error in Windows

Windows users were unable to install the system update due to an unknown error. This is reported by the Windows Latest edition.

According to posts on social networks and on the Microsoft forum, when you try to install the KB5003173 update, you receive an error with the code 0x800f0922. The operating system then initiates an automatic rollback. Also, when installing the OS, it tries to install the Chromium Edge application, however, this operation also fails. An empty Edge folder appears on the system drive.

According to experts, the unknown error occurs due to an update compatibility issue with the Microsoft Edge browser. Update KB5003173 is part of the cumulative update for versions 20H2 and 2004. KB5003173 was deployed on May 11th.

Later, users said that they were able to install the update after completely uninstalling the Edge browser. To do this, go to the Program Files (x86) directory, which is located on the system drive, then find the Microsoft folder there. This will contain the Edge directory to be deleted. After that, you need to reboot the system and try to install the update again.

Microsoft has not yet publicly responded to the concerns.

Previously, Windows 10 users reported that an AMD driver deployed through Windows Update causes a Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) to appear. Microsoft later removed this update.
