Four 8GB RAM modules or a couple of 16GB modules – which is better for gaming?
Testing conducted at 1080p on a PC with a Ryzen 5 5600X processor, GeForce RTX 3080 graphics, and a 2TB SSD. The be quiet! Cooler is responsible for cooling the processor. Dark Rock Pro 4. Uses a CORSAIR RM850i 850W PSU.
The results are as follows:
- Cyberpunk 2077 2077 – 103 fps (2 modules of 16 GB), 106 fps (4 modules of 8 GB).
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider – 175 fps (2 modules of 16 GB each), 178 fps (4 modules of 8 GB each).
- Battlefield V – 194 fps (2 x 16 GB modules), 195 fps (4 x 8 GB modules).
- Microsoft Flight Simulator – 104 fps (2 modules of 16 GB), 107 fps (4 modules of 8 GB).
- Hitman 3 – 173 fps (2 modules of 16 GB each), 177 fps (4 modules of 8 GB each).
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – 127 fps (2 modules of 16 GB), 128 fps (4 modules of 8 GB).
- Mafia Definitive Edition – 156 fps (2 modules of 16 GB), 158 fps (4 modules of 8 GB).
- PUBG – 227 fps (2 modules of 16 GB each), 231 fps (4 modules of 8 GB each).
The difference is minimal, but the more modules, the better.
