Frequent alarms in Ukraine: Svitan said why Russia activated the MiG-31K
In Ukraine, air alerts have become more frequent due to take-offs by enemy aircraft. Often the cause of concern is the take-offs of Russian MiG-31Ks, which may be carriers of Kinzhal missiles.
Colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military expert, pilot-instructor Roman Svitan told Channel 24 about this. According to him, MiG-31K enemy planes, which can carry Kinzhal missiles, used to often take to the skies in Belarus.
Now Russia has relocated its fighters to the Savasleyka air base, located in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
“The Russians have begun to carry out control training flights there. There is a standard work of any regiment that performs a certain combat duty,” Svitan said.
Why alarms are sometimes short enough
The colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that for each takeoff of the MiG-31K, which can carry “Daggers”, our air defense system will be triggered.
After all, the radio engineering troops of Ukraine “see” the whole of Russia and record every takeoff of an aircraft, which can be potentially dangerous. Sometimes the duration of air raid alerts is quite short.
“For example, Russian” yellow-mouths “came and begin to study on the MiG-31. The plane took off into the sky, turned around, flew in a circle, sat down – it takes 15 minutes ,” the instructor pilot explained.

The enemy can release the “Dagger” at any time
However, the Russians can launch a missile attack on Ukraine at any moment.
As long as the MiG-31K is “hanging” in the air, it can perform any task, especially if it carries Kinzhal missiles. It can, for example, take off, turn around and then strike,” Svitan noted.
According to him, when the Kinzhal reaches hypersonic speed, it reaches Ukraine in literally minutes. That is why the Ukrainian air defense is proactive, and the air raid is announced immediately after the activity of enemy aircraft.
Important! Kh-47m2 “Dagger” is a Russian hypersonic aviation missile system, which is one of the latest. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine explained that the Kinzhal missiles are very fast and extremely dangerous. After all, it is difficult for air defense systems to respond to launches and intercept these missiles.
The work of enemy aviation near the front
In addition, Russia has stepped up flights of the Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35. As Svitan noted, these planes pass at high altitudes. Sometimes, from the Ukrainian positions in the area of the front line, a contrail of an aircraft is even visible in the sky.
This means that the aircraft passes at an altitude of more than 8 kilometers. The Russians are trying to bombard the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with guided bombs, not approaching the radius of destruction of our air defense systems, the military expert explained.
He added that the occupiers were dropping bombs from high altitudes and at high speed.
Cause of air alerts in frontline areas
In addition to the aerial bombs that Su fighters drop in the front area, they can carry a certain number of Kh-59 and Kh-31 missiles. The enemy can launch these rockets from the same height and at high speed.
Some missiles can hit targets up to 300 kilometers away. Therefore, even with the regular work of aviation along the front line, an alarm mode is activated, especially in the East, South and Center of Ukraine. – said the colonel of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
That is why sometimes sirens are heard not throughout Ukraine, but in Kharkiv, Zaporozhye, Kherson and other regions located closer to the front line.
“It is definitely impossible to ignore the alarms. After all , any of the flights of enemy aircraft can end in a combat launch ,” Svitan emphasized.
The military expert added that Ukrainian air defense always warns of a potential threat.
Are the flights of enemy aircraft connected with the desire to track down the air defense of Ukraine
At the same time, the instructor pilot believes that the frequent flights of Russian aviation are not connected with the fact that in this way Russia is trying to determine the location of our air defense systems.
Such a task (hunting down air defense – Channel 24) is constantly with the enemy. They work it out not only by taking off and landing planes,” Svitan said.
According to him, the aggressor country has enough resources to systematically monitor the space of Ukraine.
- Russia has its own radio engineering troops and certain control systems.
- There are some groups in Ukraine that work for the enemy and monitor air defense systems.
- For some time, the invaders used the A-50 reconnaissance aircraft to “probe” the territory of Ukraine. However, this aircraft was damaged in an incident at the Machulishchi airfield in Belarus. The military expert noted that now the enemy is looking for something to replace the A-50.
The military expert added that the Russians are constantly monitoring the territory of Ukraine. Frequent aviation flights are only an addition to this process.
Air Alerts in Ukraine: Briefly
- Over the past few days, air raid alerts have been announced more frequently throughout Ukraine. In particular, this situation is associated with the activity of the MiG-31K.
- Yuri Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, noted that the Russians are probably conducting training flights. Thus, the enemy is probably preparing junior aircrew to strengthen their abilities in the future.
- According to Ignat, when Russia raises the MiG-31K aircraft to keep Ukraine on its toes, the map stays red for about 1.5 hours. During this time, the fighter works out its fuel and sits back to the airfield.
