Friend of pedophile financier Epstein denied release on $ 28.5 million bail

A federal district court in the United States refused to release on bail Gislaine Maxwell, who is accused of complicity in Jeffrey Epstein's crimes, in particular, in the sexual exploitation of minors.

Maxwell's defense had previously asked for release: the lawyers insisted on the intolerance of being held in a federal detention center, as well as the threat of coronavirus infection.

For the release of their client to freedom, the defenders offered $ 28.5 million.

Despite the large sum, the judges rejected the petition, arguing their decision with the possibility of the defendant's escape. Maxwell's defense has not yet commented on the situation.

Epstein's girlfriend was arrested in the summer of 2020, and the New Hampshire State Attorney's Office charged her with six counts. Investigators claim that Maxwell seduced minors and persuaded them to have sex, and later the victims became objects of sales, which was organized by Epstein.

The financier himself was detained a year earlier. About a month later, he committed suicide in a cell in a Manhattan SIZO, and the prosecution against him was dropped.
