It became known that Intel Alder Lake-S processors for desktop PCs will receive a new processor socket – Socket V (LGA1700). Because of this, no modern cooling systems will be compatible with new models.
The new socket will be rectangular rather than square, like the Comet and Rocket Lake-S series. The processor case and socket will also be thinner. The height will be at least one millimeter less. It is noted that as the height decreases, the socket will produce less load compared to socket H. The cooler for Socket V will have a different hole pattern. This means that all existing cooling systems will be incompatible with the new Intel processors.
Fortunately, the processors will ship with a bundled cooler, and as you already understood, it cannot be used with other models.
