The head of the German Robert Koch Institute, Lothar Wheeler, said that a new COVID-19 strain from the UK has not yet been officially found in Germany.
“As of this morning, according to information two hours ago, I do not know that this variant was discovered,” RIA Novosti quotes him.
Along with this, he added that the likelihood that the new strain has already reached German territories is very high.
“But we know that this variant was detected in the United Kingdom back in September, we know that it was found in the Netherlands and Denmark, which means that the probability that it is already in Germany, but has not yet been detected, this I estimate the probability as very high, ”added Wheeler.
Earlier, a professor at Rutgers University, head of a laboratory at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Konstantin Severinov commented on the news of the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK.
