Goitered gazelle cubs were born at the Moscow Zoo
At the Center for the reproduction of rare species of animals of the Moscow Zoo, cubs of gazelles were born, according to the website of the mayor and the government of the Russian capital.
Jeyrans are rare gazelles. They are listed in the Red Book and are categorized as “vulnerable”. There are about 140 thousand individuals left in the world. Animals live in Iran, Afghanistan, China and Georgia.
“Various zoos around the world are fighting to preserve this rare species by creating a reserve population in captivity. The capital's zoo is also working to obtain the offspring of gazelles, ”said Svetlana Akulova, general director of the zoo. She added that the two gazelles had a pair of cubs – a female and a male.
The veterinarians examined the babies and concluded that they were healthy. Jeyrans are already playing with each other and running in a race across the enclosure.
Recall that in mid-June, two Grevy's zebras arrived at the Moscow Zoo from the Czech Republic. One of them will soon be four years old, the second – only two. Both are absolutely healthy and get to know their neighbors: Zebra Debora and the giraffe Lipa.
