New Honor smartphones, which will be presented in spring 2021, will lose the Huawei AppGallery app store. Instead, they will receive all Google services that were removed due to US sanctions imposed in 2019.
In November 2020, Huawei sold the Honor sub-brand to another Chinese consortium, Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co. It is estimated that the deal was worth $ 15 billion and was carried out so that Honor can operate without the restrictions that Huawei fell under. Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology has about 30 Chinese dealers and investment firms. Honor also includes a smart city development venture set up by the Shenzhen government.
In May 2019, US President Donald Trump blacklisted Huawei, which led to the termination of cooperation with the Chinese company of American Google, Microsoft and others. Since that time, a special version of Android without Google services is pre-installed on Huawei smartphones.
