Moscow. July 30. INTERFAX.RU – On Friday, specialists of the Energia rocket and space corporation will complete work with the engines of the Nauka module, which had turned on abnormally the day before, and the opening of the passageways is planned later, Roscosmos reported.

“Today, specialists from the Main Operational Control Group (LOCT, RSC Energia named after SP Korolev, part of the Roscosmos state corporation) are completing a set of procedures with the propulsion system of the Nauka module in the interests of unconditionally ensuring the safety of both the International Space Station and and the entire crew, “the message says.

“In the evening after the completion of these works, it is planned to open hatches: first, the transitional compartment of the Zvezda service module, then the new Russian module,” added the state corporation.

Roscosmos also reported that on the eve of the LOCT specialists, together with the Russian crew members of the ISS, made sure that the main joint is sealed. They noted that the ISS flight continues according to the planned program.

Engine incident

Earlier, NASA reported that the ISS turned 45 degrees due to an abnormal start of the engines of the Nauka module, which docked to the station last Thursday.

According to NASA, ground specialists regained control of the station, all ISS systems are normal. As reported during the broadcast, the engines of the Zvezda module and the Progress cargo ship had to be used to compensate for the impulse. Roskosmos explained the incident with work with fuel leftovers in the Science module.

After docking the module to the ISS, the Russian crew planned to open the hatch of the transition compartment of the Zvezda module, and then open the hatch of the Nauka module and enter the living area of the instrument-sealed compartment, but they failed to do so. Later, the MCC specialist, during negotiations with the crew, asked the cosmonauts to attach manovacuum meters to the hatch of the Nauka module to check the pressure.

Also on Friday, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said that the specialists who participated in the preparation of MLM for launch will be nominated for awards.

Launch transfers

The launch dates for Nauka have been repeatedly postponed. Initially, the launch of the module “was scheduled for 2017, but was postponed to 2018 due to a blockage in the fuel system. The blockage could have caused a breakdown of the ISS propulsion system, so the module was returned to the manufacturer for revision. Later, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said that the main cause of problems with the fuel system of “Science” was not a blockage, but a marriage.

The new Russian module is designed to increase the technical and operational capabilities of the Russian segment of the International Space Station. It will ensure the possibility of implementing a scientific research program in the interests of fundamental science and the social sphere, including the development and augmentation of the resources of the Russian segment of the ISS.
