Harvard Professor Decides to Sell His DNA Code at Crypto Auction
Harvard professor George Church has put up his genetic code for sale as a non-fungible token – NFT. At the same time, the scientist's genetic code can be downloaded for free from the Personal Genome Project website, according to Futurism.
Church said that he did not come up with the idea of selling the genome, but he liked the idea. The professor hopes that the unusual auction will help attract more attention to science.
“This is an unusual intersection of two significant themes of futurism: genetic sequencing and blockchain technology. Each of them has recently provoked an incredible surge of interest, ”Church said.
The NFT auction website notes that Professor Church's genome, the first ever sequenced, has great historical significance in the field of personal genomics. This is due to the fact that his DNA code has been used in a myriad of research.
As a reminder, NFT gained popularity in 2021. In March, the digital painting sold for a record $ 69 million at an auction. Every Day: The First 5000 Days by artist Beeple is composed of 5000 images that have been created daily since May 2007.
