He left to fight at almost 60: record holder Vasily Shevchuk died at the front for Ukraine

Vasily Shevchuk, a native of Khorostkov, Ternopil region, died at the front. Previously, he became the record holder, who lay naked under the snow for 20 minutes.

Also, Vasily Shevchuk overcame a marathon distance of 43 kilometers in winter without outerwear. The hero went to fight at almost 60 years old.

What is known about the deceased soldier

The death of Vasily Shevchuk was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the Ternopil Regional Council Igor Sopel. This is a heavy loss for the entire country.

Defending Ukraine from the enemy, our countryman from Khorostkov, Vasily Shevchuk, died. Many people knew Vasily as a patriot, a hardworking and persistent person, an athlete and a champion. For about 30 years, he was tempered, trained a lot, ran barefoot, – said Sopel.

The hero went to the front, despite the fact that he was soon to be 60 years old.

In 2016, Vasily Shevchuk set a record by pushing himself off the floor 63 times in a minute, relying on just two fingers.

In 2019, the defender lay under the snow for 20 minutes and 6 seconds, but was only wearing shorts. In February 2022, 58-year-old Vasily ran a marathon distance of 43 kilometers in 4 hours and 23 minutes. As a result, the man set a Ukrainian record “The longest distance of a winter race with a naked torso.”

“He loved his native land, so at the age of almost 60 he went to the front in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. My sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Vasily Shevchuk. Eternal memory to the Hero!” Sopel added.

Famous historian, archaeologist and teacher died at the front

In the battles for Bakhmut, the famous historian, archaeologist, teacher, guide and patriot Yuri Kovalenko died. In the spring of 2022, he defended the Chernihiv region, and in parallel, he defended his thesis.

Yuriy Kovalenko was from Glukhov, Sumy region. Back in 2014, he volunteered to go to the East to defend Ukraine. Without waiting for the medical examination, he left for Ilovaisk.

For more than 30 years, Yuri has been engaged in archeology, history, studied the burials of the Second World War, was a military archaeologist, and a volunteer.
