“I hope assistance will continue to be provided in the future”: Austin responded to DeSantis about sending weapons to Ukraine
According to DeSantis, helping Ukraine is not in the interests of the United States.
On March 15, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin commented on the statement of Republican Ron DeSantis, who intends to run for the presidency of the United States, regarding the inappropriateness of aid to Ukraine.
Austin responded to DeSantis during a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group.
“As far as the importance of Ukraine is concerned, first of all, there has been bipartisan support for providing security assistance to Ukraine so far, and I hope that it will continue to be provided further. We have heard high-ranking leaders on both sides of the Atlantic speak about this, and I I hope we continue to enlist this support,” Austin said.
He also noted that Ukraine is important “for the whole world.”
“It's about a rule-based international order. It's about the ability of one country to wake up one day and change its neighbor's borders and annex its sovereign territory, and as we can see, countries around the world don't think that's a good idea.” said the US Secretary of Defense.
Recall that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered one of the possible candidates for the US presidency, said that helping Ukraine is not in the interests of the United States. Former US President Donald Trump has also repeatedly made provocative statements about the war in Ukraine.
