Thomas Müller and Lucas Hernandez
A court in Madrid ordered a prison sentence for Bayern Munich star Hernandez on Wednesday – what's next with the kicker?
His club Bayern Munich is still keeping a low profile and does not want to comment on the cause (yet). The phones are running hot in the background and the lawyers are trying to punch the defense attorney out of the matter. Currently it is still a private matter, according to club circles.
The 32nd criminal court in Madrid summoned the French team player for October 19th. After that, the 25-year-old has to serve a six-month prison sentence within ten days. An application had been made to suspend the execution of the sentence, but this was refused.
According to Sky information, Bayern will only react if there is an impairment in game operations for Hernandez. The schedule is currently favorable for the people of Munich.
On Sunday it's going to the top duel against Leverkusen, where the defensive all-rounder would be eligible to play as normal. On Tuesday, Bayern will fly to Lisbon, the day Hernandez has to appear in court. Here, too, it would be possible for the 80-million-man to fly on from Madrid to Lisbon, playing against Benfica for Bayern on Wednesday. Provided, of course, that he can avert the impending prison sentence.
A court in Madrid had issued a ban on contact and approach against the footballer in February 2017 after a violent dispute with his current wife Amelie de la Osa Lorente in public.
A little later, the couple was reconciled and flew to Miami together. And thereby violated the court-imposed ban on contact. This was discovered when he returned to Spain, when Hernandez was playing for Atletico Madrid.
Hernandez was then sentenced to 31 days of community service. However, the star kicker did not complete this. Now the French are threatened with imprisonment.
