In Ecuador, there was a strong earthquake that millions felt: there is destruction (video)

Ecuador was hit by a strong earthquake on March 18 with a magnitude of 6.9, which could be felt by more than 13 million people.

The quake struck in the coastal region of Guayas, with an epicenter about 80 km south of Guayaquil, Ecuador's second largest city. Tremors occurred at a depth of 10 km, according to the data of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

It is not yet known if there were any casualties as a result of the earthquake. At the same time, the videos published on the Web show the destruction of buildings and cars. In particular, one of the videos recorded a whole building that fell into the water.

According to BNO News, the tremors were felt throughout the region and even in neighboring Peru. Soon after the first, the second shocks were also recorded, but with a smaller magnitude – 4.8.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no such threat.

USGS computer models have determined that up to 13.5 million people could have felt the quake. Of these, 5.1 million people felt “strong” or “very strong” aftershocks.

Recall, March 15 in the Mediterranean Sea, off the southern coast of Greece, there was an earthquake of magnitude 5.3.
